What are Dark Patterns ?

Dark Patterns have gained prominence in the recent years, the term was first coined in 2010 by Harry Brignull, a user experience researcher in the United Kingdom. Dark Patterns are defined as practices that use user interface design choices that benefit an online service by coercing, controlling or deceiving users into making decisions that, if fully informed and capable of selecting alternatives, they might not make.Mathur, Arunesh, et al.
